EdLUG (Social) was formed to recognise a subgroup of EdLUG
subscribers people who
regularly liked to meet in the pub from those on the
list. It was proving too difficult to get a decision from the list on
where to meet each month so the regulars just held a vote on it. The
people who actually turned up at the pub
gave themselves a name and voted for where they were
going to meet by raising their hands.

EdLUG(Social) is a group of
people that meet on the first Thursday of each month in the Holyrood
Tavern.
Everyone is welcome. The main aim of EdLUG(Social) is to meet people
who share a similar interest. It is very therapeutic to be able to talk
to people who actually understand what you are talking about. Anyone
can stand up to make announcements and we sometimes have short talks,
Question and Answer sessions, and computer related demonstrations.
These talks are made by people who are willing to share their
experience, enthusiasm and knowledge in their fields. It is also
a good place to show off new toys and distributions. We have had
a very wide range of talks from BIOS level, KDE development, Linux
From Scratch to IBM Linux European Marketing. Please volunteer your
time.
If you are new to Linux and Open Source Software please feel free to
come along to these gatherings. It is best to remember that most people
there see each other only
infrequently. It tends to feel like you are
meeting with a group of strangers. Everyone feels like this. A badge
with your name on it and the question "Which distribution do you use?"
is an easy way to start a conversation with anyone and if you have
questions someone there will
probably have an answer for you. You just need to keep asking.
The EdLUG(Social) gatherings do not
stop any EdLUG subscribers suggesting another date,
time and place where they would like to meet. However by referring to
EdLUG(Social) everyone knows
that you are talking about the Holyrood Tavern group.
If you do wish to set a meeting place for all of EdLUG please consider
